"I started Alanna Books in 2006 – almost by accident!
At the Bologna Bookfair in 2004, I sold the rights to one of my new projects in the US, Denmark and Netherlands. But I couldn’t find a UK publisher for the story… So, like the little red hen, I decided to ‘do it myself’ and I’ve been running the tiny list alone for the past 12 years.
I’m delighted to announce that this year I will be joined at the helm by Ken Wilson-Max - author, artist and designer. I’m thrilled to gain a partner with such vast experience as well as a commitment to naturally inclusive publishing. I have a deep interest in child development, so it is particularly great to find another early-years enthusiast.
Our new creative partnership will be called Alanna-Max, and we will continue the passionate commitment to the very best stories – featuring a wide range of little kids, just being themselves, because that is enough!
Editor at Large, Alanna Max
I’ve been tingling with excitement since we started talking about this partnership. Now that it has started, there is a lot of good work to do! There’s no better time to forge a literary alliance built on diversity, inclusion and, yes, really good books for the very young.

"The most realistic and thoughtful pet adoption picture bookI've ever read! " Samantha

Published in Spring this year, Zeki and his Dad are as loveable as ever. To see inside click here
"This is the third picture book in a delightful series with baby Zeki as the central character. As with all books produced by this publisher, the emphasis is on portraying an ordinary child’s eye view of, what is to them, a series of extraordinary experiences." The Letterpress project

"Full of warmth, reassuring, and as with all the books in this series, inclusive and beautifully portrayed. Definitely one to add to the bookshelves of those with toddlers be that at home or in a nursery setting." Red Reading Hub

"This week the latest Zeki story is published. Tt really does deserve to be in every play group, nursery, children's centre, GP practice. McQuinn & Hearson are SO good at taking everyday, real experiences of children and telling them gently, kindly & with much love." Playing by the Book
"Zeki, Lulu’s now equally famous brother, is due for a check up. Everthing is handled very calmly and we notice how grown up little Zeki has become, but his milestones have to be checked in the local clinic... This cheerful multicultural book will be ideal for parents to prepare toddlers for their first milestone checkup..." Mary Arrigan, Irish Examiner
